YOGA RUM

MULTIPLE DEPARTURES IN SPRING 2020

EXPLORE THE DESERT OF WADI RUM AND LIVE IN THE STILLNESS ON A CALMING 5-DAY YOGA RETREAT WITH A SMALL GROUP OF CURIOUS YOGI TRAVELERS

ⵙ WHAT’S THE JOURNEY?

practice yoga. meditate. discover the bedouin culture.

Welcome to Jordan, our first love and a fascinating country in the Levant region of the Middle East. The incredible Mars-like desert of Wadi Rum beckons. In 5 days and 4 nights, we will explore this majestic desert, get to know the people that live here, and truly disconnect from our devices and from the outside world.

ⵆ WHO IS THIS TRIP FOR?

Our travelers come from diverse backgrounds and walks of life, but what unites them is humility, curiosity, an open mind, love for travel, and a sense of adventure.

All yoga experience levels welcome:

Whether it’s your first time trying yoga or a thousandth, you will find a sense of peace and stillness in the desert of Wadi Rum unlike any other. Our daily yoga sessions will be geared toward beginners, but you can challenge yourself as much - or as little - as you want.

  • Step Outside Your Comfort Zone

Climb the formidable dunes of the Wadi Rum desert and explore its gorgeous valleys and mountains.

  • Experience Childlike Wonder

See the magnificent landscape of the Wadi Rum desert during the day and sleep under the bottomless starry skies at night.

  • Explore a New, Beautiful Culture

Stay in a traditional Bedouin desert camp and engage with the local tribes.

  • Find a Sense of Stillness

The desert of Wadi Rum is quiet. Truly quiet. This is a wonderful place to grow your meditation or mindfulness routine.

  • Unplug from Your Daily Routine

Unplug, literally. There’s very spotty wi-fi signal here (strong signal available for emergencies in the nearby village), which means you can leave your devices in your tent, get outside, and get moving.

  • A YOGA BEGINNER?

We are beginners as well. We are here to relax and to find stillness within us in a dedicated, safe space, all while getting to know the beautiful Bedouin culture. Our deep relationships with people who live and work in the desert of Wadi Rum will give you a close look into this region we love.

PRACTICE YOGA. MEDITATE. DISCOVER BEDOUIN CULTURE.

LEAVE THE COUNTLESS HOURS OF PLANNING TO US, EXPERT TRAVELERS AND ORGANIZERS WITH INSIDER KNOWLEDGE OF THE WADI RUM DESERT IN JORDAN

You will have a magical, awe-inspiring, unforgettable experience with memories to savor from the trip of a lifetime.

ⵂ RETREAT LEADERS

NOMⴷD + JULES founder yulia denisyuk

Yulia is a travel photographer, writer, explorer, and incessant traveler. Her passion is creating authentic local experiences that spark a deeper understanding of people and places we love. Yulia recently spent a week in the desert of Wadi Rum, where she practiced yoga, meditated, and (finally) got off her phone. The experience was so healing and transformative that we simply had to re-create it for others. Thus Yoga Rum was born.

yoga teacher and namaste zone studio founder farah qudsi

Farah has been into the fitness field and teaching since 2008. She started her journey as a fitness and personal trainer in different international gyms. Farah found her path to yoga after her 2013 journey to the Himalayas mountains. Farah has done 200 hours of TTC in the Himalayas and 500 hours of TTC in India/Rishikesh. She's an experienced registered yoga teacher, and has been teaching yoga since 2013. Farah is the owner of the Namaste Zone yoga studio in Amman, Jordan.

After trying different ways in implementing healthy lifestyle into our hectic modern life she truly believes that yoga is the path to reaching happiness by having a healthy mind and body.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. Do I need to be an avid yoga practitioner to join you on this retreat? What if I’ve never tried yoga before in my life? You don’t have to be an expert in yoga and you don’t have to even have tried yoga before. This is as much a journey for the mind as it is for the body. Our primary goal with the retreat is twofold: 1) to experience a sense of stillness and relaxation that comes with staying in a desert 2) to discover the traditional Bedouin culture. No prior yoga experience is necessary for achieving either of these goals.

  2. What if I am an avid yoga practitioner? Will I be challenged enough during the sessions? Our gentle yoga sessions will be geared toward beginners, but you can push yourself as much (or as little) as you want during the practice. All experience levels are welcome!

  3. Do I need to be a photographer (or a social media influencer) to join you on this retreat? No. Our focus here is on having a relaxing, mind-freeing experience in the desert. We do have a passion for photography, but it is not mandatory by all means to be a professional photographer or have an interest in photography/social media. All we ask is that you come with an open mind and heart.

  4. Who will be leading the yoga sessions? We have partnered with a wonderful human Farah Qudsi who will be leading all yoga/meditation sessions during the retreat. Farah is an experienced registered yoga teacher who’s been teaching yoga since 2013. She is the founder of Amman’s first yoga studio, Namaste Zone.

  5. Who fulfills the trip on the ground? We've partnered with a wonderful tour company in Jordan that has a passion for same things we do to make this happen. We have used this company's services in the past and can attest that they are amazing, care about their people, and genuinely care for the wellbeing of their guests (plus have more than 30 years of experience with groups visiting Jordan).

  6. What yoga gear do I need to bring? We will be providing mats to practice on for the retreat, so don’t worry about that. If you practice with your own belts/elasticity bands, you may want to bring those, but no gear (beyond a mat) will be required for practice.

  7. How much cash do I need on the ground? You should expect to need a maximum of 100 JOD for the trip (that's ~$140). This would cover tips and any small miscellaneous expenses.

  8. Do I need to arrive and depart at a specific time? We have included transfers to/from airport as part of the trip, so you will have flexibility in choosing the flights that work for you. Afternoon arrival and morning departure are ideal - but we can work with other schedules as well.

  9. What about visas? For US citizens: we will not need a visa to enter Jordan (US citizen traveling individually do need to get a visa on arrival, but since we are traveling as a group, that requirement is waived). If you will be traveling with any other passport, please email us so we can advise on visas.

  10. What about travel insurance? Starting September 2019, we will require all travelers to provide proof of current and adequate travel insurance 30 days prior to departure. We strongly recommend that travel insurance addresses trip cancellation coverage. The bookings (including the deposit and the remaining payment) are non-refundable; Trip cancellation insurance may be the only means of receiving reimbursement for flights and other non-refundable travel expenses should the trip be cancelled for any reason by you. There are many options of travel insurance to choose from; see more here.

  11. Is it safe to visit Jordan right now? Yes. Our founder, Yulia, has recently returned from a three week stay in Jordan (Sep 2019) and it is safe there. The situation on the ground is often less extreme than what media portrays. We will of course take every precaution to travel safely, as we should anywhere we go on the planet. Read more about this here.
